SMF is free, however. vBulletin is good enough if you afford it comparing there support and thousand or maybe few thousand mods in vB ORG

I am planning to setup a forum. I am new to setting up forums and stuff, but it seems to me that phpBB is the best. It won the sourceforge community award. It can use SQLite (flat-file) for database and easy to install. According to tack it is a free vBulletin .

But I was wondering, does phpBB3 create many files? I am using WEV2's hosting and Nitul told me it supports maximum 55000 files. If the forum eats most of the limit then it will be awful.

55K is loads of file...

You can go ahead, be sure. PhpBB wont create that many files maximum 1-2 K
