Hi,
There should not be any legal issue if anyone uses WordPress but don't have any credit/powered by link to WordPress. Also, don't even have the word "wordpress" anywhere on the site.

But, shouldn't this be an ethical issue?

What do you people say? I have seen some examples of these kinds of works.

Its a bad thing not to credit WordPress, and I think its a violation of there license too. I am not sure, I have to read that.

So far, my blog www.nitul.net does not have "Powered By WordPress" however, its backend is powered by WordPress as long you are in Bangladesh, no copyright and piracy law can touch you but still... its really looks bad to not credit WP as they made such a great script for us FOR FREE

PS : I am one of those bad guys who do not credit them ;(

I think we should give them or put a credit link for them. cause they are doing a Good job for us.

Its mainly ethical, they won't bite you if you dont credit them back. They don't have time to go and find all the sites and using proper channels to bust them. So, its really up to you.

Yup, its only right that they should receive proper credits for putting in so much effort in making the script.

But, when I talked on this issue with a Professor (and highly ranked personnel of an IT institute), who is from a public engineering university of BD (also in charge of the website of the univ), about their using WordPress without giving any credit... this is what he said:

"We have paid them in full"

I was speechless. Ok, he is a professor of my department, former head of the department. Has a lot of power to ruin me, so I did not proceed any further.

For donating, it require a PayPal You can't donate legally, as per using PayPal from Bangladesh is ILLEGAL you mean a Prof. did that crime :$

"We paid them in full" <- You heard this maybe from 1, I did from 100 A lot of people says "We are powered by Google, our mail servers are bought from Google by paying $700 USD" and sows me "Google Mini" while they use "Google Apps"

Lolz, google doesn't mail sell servers, Google Apps doesn't cost a dime. You can recommend him to contact me, I can get him huge discount, I can set the apps up for $100 instead of $700



BTW, some people not only remove Powered by... they modify it like 'Powered By Jinjira systems' o_O
